DC300 Refrigerated Chiller

Temperature control within an aquarium is an important parameter in helping to reduce stress on fish and corals where high temperatures or excessive temperature variations can result in coral bleaching or death. D-D have been supplying chillers for several years that provide high efficiency, proven reliability and economy with respect to both running and initial purchase costs. The new DC300 refrigerated chiller is compact enough to fit in most cabinets but has a cooling capacity of 300W making it ideal for aquariums of 150 lts at a 10°C temperature drop to 300 lts with a 5°C temperature drop.

Features

  • Microcomputer control - for accuracy and ease of use with a built-in temperature memory system in the case of a power failure. Integral over temperature cut off.
  • Pure TITANIUM heat exchanger /evaporator - for its extreme anti-corrosion properties in a saltwater environment.
  • Low running noise
  • High efficiency, latest generation cooler - for low running costs.
  • Superior quality condenser - for reliability and low noise.
  • Robust metal chassis - for strength and anti-vibration properties
  • Contemporary housing design - to fit with most decors.

Performance

The performance chart below shows the cooling curve for the DC300 working on an aquarium of 150 lts of water which starts at a water temperature of 28°C. You can see the drop in temperature of the aquarium hour by hour as it is recirculated through the cooler.

The ambient air temperature in the room remains at 30°C throughout the test.

The chart shows that the temperature of the water is reduced by 10°C in a period of 12 hours.

Note that no heat from lighting or other equipment is added to the water mass during the test.

Internal fuse - T start T3.15A/250V or 5~6A/250V if T start type fuse is not available

The mains plug is also protected by a 13 amp fuse

FAQs
Why does the light on the D-D ATO sensor change?

The sensor on the DDATO has different light colours and patterns to warn of faults or show its status.

Flashing blue and red LED. The unit has been powered on and it is going through its startup process.

Flashing blue LED. A low water level has been detected and the top up unit is operating the pump to refill with fresh water.

Short intermitting blinking blue LED. The waterlevel is above the failsafe sensor and the unit has been temporarily deactivated. When the water level returns to below the emergncy sensor the unit will return to normal operation. The failsafe sensor can be activated after each top up on nano aquariums, this is normal and no action needs to be taken.

Solid Blue LED. The top up unit is in normal standby mode.

Flashing red LED. Alarm mode has been activated. The unit has detected an issue and or the freshwater reservoir is empty.

Why is my D+D ATO sensor light red

A red light on the sensor can indicate one of these things.

The sensor's inbuilt emergency shut-off timer has been activated

When the unit performs its first top-up after being powered on it will store the time taken in its memory. If for any reason the top-up unit is activated for longer than 6 times this the sensor will assume there is a problem or that the freshwater reservoir is empty, shut down and show the red warning light.

Corrective action to set the ATO back into normal operation mode and clear the alarm status, power the unit down from the mains plug socket for a few seconds and then power it back up. The sensor should flash red/blue a few times as it reinitialises and then returns to normal operation mode with a solid blue status light.

The sensor is detecting a fault with the ATO pump.

If the pump cannot run the sensor may go into alarm mode and turn off power to the pump. If this is the situation you will notice that when the top-up activates the pump will not turn on and the status light will immediately show red and not flash blue until time out occurs.

Corrective action:_Disconnect the unit from mains power, check that the connector where the power lead and pump plug-in has not become wet and that the impellor in the pump is clean and free to move.

The freshwater reservoir is empty or the sensor is impaired

No water in the reservoir or microbubbles in the water are causing issues with the sensor detecting the water level. Check that the sensor is not in an area where it is subject to small bubbles, eg near the outlet from a skimmer.

Corrective action: If this has occurred check that the sensor is clean, the impellor in the pump is clean and free to move, the freshwater reservoir is not empty, and there is nothing that could be causing the sump water level to fall unexpectedly.
