Sophisticated and highly effective gravel cleaner to siphon off waste in aquariums from 20 cm height upwards
  • Use: shake the gravel cleaner, let water flow into the bucket, siphon the waste out of the substrate, close the stopcock when finished
  • A corner on the round gravel cleaner ensures an efficient and powerful whirl effect so you can move and easily siphon off dirt from the aquarium corners
  • The protective sieve can be removed for cleaning and prevents plants, shrimps and fish from being accidentally sucked in
  • Package contents: 1 gravel cleaner with suction valve, Ø 4 cm, length 27 cm, incl. 2 m hose (12/16 mm), 2 hose clips, stopcock
Regular water change
Food, plant remains and metabolic products pollute the aquarium water. Since aquarium filters can't completely remove these substances from the water and a large part of the waste enters the aquarium bottom, a regular partial water change (about every 2 weeks 1/3 of the water content) needs to be carried out. Always siphon off the waste from the substrate when carrying out a partial water change. After the partial water change a good water conditioner such as JBL Biotopol is vital to prepare the new tap water for fish. Simple to use: Hold the gravel cleaner underwater in the aquarium, shake it up and down and hold the end of the hose inside the bucket. Water will then flow into the bucket. Clean the bottom with the gravel cleaner. To finish, simply remove the gravel cleaner from the water or/and close the stopcock at the end of the hose. How to clean the aquarium bottom properly:
Push the gravel cleaner into the aquarium substrate with twisting movements. The suction pulls the substrate and the dirt in the gravel cleaner upwards. The substrate falls back down under its own weight and only the dirt is sucked out of the aquarium. With fine sand, you can adjust the suction by lifting the gravel cleaner so that the light sand also falls back down. A sieve in the bell of the cleaner prevents fish and shrimp from being accidentally sucked in. The sieve can be removed for cleaning.
If you have a long-term substrate fertiliser under the covering gravel layer (e.g. JBL PROFLORA AQUA BASIS), do not insert the gravel cleaner far. Insert it only as deeply as the covering substrate layer is thick.

FAQs
What do you need a gravel cleaner for?

A gravel cleaner is a tool that is used to clean the substrate (gravel or sand) in a fish tank. It is an important tool for maintaining a clean and healthy environment for the fish and other aquatic life living in the tank. Over time, the substrate in a fish tank can accumulate debris, such as uneaten food, feces, and excess plant matter, which can lead to poor water quality and contribute to the growth of harmful bacteria and algae. A gravel cleaner helps to remove this debris and improve the overall cleanliness of the tank.

There are several different types of gravel cleaners available. Some types are manual and require the user to manually siphon the debris out of the tank, while others are automatic and use a battery-powered pump to do the work for you.

To use a gravel cleaner, you typically start by filling the tank with clean water and then using the gravel cleaner to gently agitate the substrate. This helps to loosen and remove any debris that is trapped in the substrate. The debris is then collected in a receptacle or bag attached to the gravel cleaner and can be disposed of safely.

It's important to use a gravel cleaner regularly as part of your tank maintenance routine to ensure that the substrate is clean and the water quality in the tank is good. This can help to keep your fish and other aquatic life healthy and happy.
