The Albino Red Fin Shark (Epalzeorhynchos frenatum) is renowned for its captivating appearance, making it a popular choice for aquarium enthusiasts. However, their striking beauty is accompanied by territorial behaviour, particularly when housed with conspecifics.
Aggressive displays such as head-and-tail butting and biting are common, especially among larger individuals who fiercely defend their territories, sometimes at the expense of smaller tank mates. Additionally, their assertiveness may result in instances of jumping out of the aquarium. It's recommended to keep only one Albino Red Fin Shark per aquarium, especially in smaller tanks, due to their territorial behaviour. Keeping multiple individuals in the same tank may lead to aggression and territorial disputes. In larger tanks with ample space and hiding spots, multiple Albino Rainbow Sharks can be kept, but close monitoring of their behaviour is essential to prevent aggression.
Compatibility
Albino Red Fin Sharks can peacefully share a tank with Barbs, Rainbowfish, Danios, Loaches, Plecos, Rasboras, and Gouramis, typically found in the upper and middle tank levels. While larger freshwater shrimp species can also coexist, their eggs or fry might be vulnerable to predation. It's best to avoid smaller, timid fish, as Albino Red Fin Sharks may assert dominance and intimidate them into leaving their territory. Albino Red Fin Sharks have modest decor preferences, necessitating adequate hiding spots without a penchant for damaging soft-leaved plants. To simulate their riverine habitat, opt for a substrate featuring rocks, gravel, and large boulders, along with driftwood and sturdy aquatic plants for added aesthetics. As denizens of flowing waters, they require pristine conditions with ample oxygenation and moderate water flow, displaying sensitivity to organic waste accumulation.
Diet
The Albino Red Fin Shark is characterized by its undemanding dietary habits, willingly accepting most food types that sink to the bottom of the tank. For optimal health and robust immune function, it's advisable to provide these fish with a diverse diet. This can be achieved by supplying a blend of algae wafers or tablets, insect larvae, and zooplankton, along with frozen or live foods. Additionally, offering blanched vegetables like spinach, lettuce, and peas can act as a nutritious and enjoyable supplement to their usual dietary routine. A varied diet not only fulfils the nutritional needs of these Sharks but also enhances their feeding experience.
Origin and Environment
Originating from Southeast Asia standard Red Fin Sharks inhabit clean, warm freshwater rivers with abundant plankton and sandy bottoms. These tranquil waters serve as their natural habitat, where they actively forage for food and shelter along the riverbed. Remarkably, Red Fin Sharks exhibit a migratory behaviour, venturing into floodplains, inundated fields, and forests during heavy rainfall or flooding events. This adaptability allows them to thrive in fluctuating conditions, showcasing their unique and captivating nature. The Albino Red Fin Shark variant, highly sought after by aquarium enthusiasts, is seldom found in the wild. Primarily a result of selective breeding, this variant boasts a creamy-white body and vibrant orange-red fins, making it a visually striking addition to aquariums.
Can it be mounted on suction cups and are there cut outs on the filter case to install these by?
No, the M Bioflow does not have any suction cups to hold the filter to the aquarium. There are no holes on the filter designed to hold such suction clips.
