The Emperor Tetra (Nematobrycon palmeri) exudes an elegant aura characterized by its striking appearance and complemented by its gentle nature. This peaceful, active, and tranquil species is renowned for its majestic presence.
Maintaining a higher ratio of females to males, particularly in larger groups, is beneficial for promoting healthy social interactions among Emperor Tetra. This not only provides a safer environment for the fish but also more closely mirrors their natural schooling behaviour.
Compatibility
In terms of tank companions, ideal choices for Emperor Tetras include species of similar size and peaceful nature, such as other small Tetras, Corydoras Catfish, Pencilfish, and smaller Cichlids like Apistogramma or Mikrogeophagus, as well as certain Dwarf Loricariids. Creating an optimal environment for Emperor Tetras involves setting up an aquarium with abundant vegetation, both submerged and floating. The setup should include a dark substrate, like sand or fine gravel, and be enriched with various decorations such as ornaments, driftwood, and live plants. While males may display some territorial behaviour, conflicts are generally mild and cause little harm. Thoughtful arrangement of items like driftwood can help break the line of sight and reduce aggression.
Diet
Emperor Tetras are capable of eating appropriately sized dried foods, but their health depends on a varied diet. Regularly including small frozen and live foods like Artemia, Brine Shrimp, and Daphnia in their diet is crucial, as it not only encourages breeding but also intensifies their vivid colours. Ensuring a balanced and diverse diet is key to preserving the health and energy of Emperor Tetras.
Origin and Environment
Emperor Tetras inhabit the gentle, slow-moving areas of rivers, minor tributaries, and backwaters predominantly found in the San Juan and Atrato River Basins of Colombia. Their natural environment is characterized by calm, clear waters with substrates of sand, rock, or silt.
Has this tank got a separate power plug for the lighting?
Yes it has. You will require three power plugs for this aquarium.
One for the light unit, one for the heater and one for the filter pump.
Can it be mounted on suction cups and are there cut outs on the filter case to install these by?
No, the M Bioflow does not have any suction cups to hold the filter to the aquarium. There are no holes on the filter designed to hold such suction clips.
