Boesmani Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia Boesemani) celebrated for its vivid blue and orange dual-coloration, is a prized addition to aquariums, hailing from the peaceful freshwater regions of West Papua, Indonesia. Its adaptability to various water conditions has made it popular among both beginners and seasoned aquarists.
Known for its dynamic yet harmonious nature, it's an ideal choice for community aquariums. To fully enjoy the beauty of Boesmani Rainbowfish, maintaining a group of at least six is recommended, which not only reduces stress but also enhances the visual spectacle with males showcasing their brightest colours to attract females.
Compatibility
Boesmani Rainbowfish won't bother smaller tankmates, thanks to their narrow mouths, making them a great fit with various compatible species such as Danios, Tiger Barbs, large Tetras, and Rasboras. Even invertebrates like Assassin Snails and Ghost Shrimp can be added to the mix, adding a unique and delightful aesthetic to the tank. The Boesmani Rainbowfish thrives in a well-planted tank with an open swimming area, mimicking their natural habitat of dense vegetation. They also prefer slightly alkaline water, and it's essential to provide clean, well-filtered water at all times, with a tight-fitting cover to prevent their accomplished jumping abilities from causing any mishaps.
Diet
In captivity, Boesmani Rainbowfish easily adapt to high-quality dry foods, including flakes, granules, and sinking pellets, designed to fulfil their nutritional needs. While these staples are sufficient, incorporating live, frozen, or freeze-dried options like bloodworms, daphnia, and tubifex weekly can enhance their health, though not essential. As omnivores, they consume some plant matter in the wild; thus, supplementing their diet with blanched vegetables like spinach, broccoli, and zucchini is beneficial, ensuring not to overfeed and remove any uneaten food by the next day.
Origin and Environment
Boesmani Rainbowfish hail from the Vogelkop Peninsula's mountainous landscapes in Western New Guinea, thriving in the clear to swampy, shallow, calcium-rich waters of Lakes Aitinjo, Hain, and Ayamaru, amidst lush vegetation. Now endangered due to environmental threats and overfishing, as listed on the IUCN Red List, measures like trade restrictions have been introduced by local authorities to mitigate these impacts and ensure the species' preservation. Creating a suitable aquarium environment for them requires effort but is immensely rewarding, helping to sustain this stunning species in captivity.
Can it be mounted on suction cups and are there cut outs on the filter case to install these by?
No, the M Bioflow does not have any suction cups to hold the filter to the aquarium. There are no holes on the filter designed to hold such suction clips.
