The Cardinal Tetra (Paracheirodon axelrodi) is a captivating and easy-to-care-for addition to many aquarium setups, enchanting aquarists with its striking colours and serene disposition.
Sometimes mistaken for its cousin, the Neon Tetra, the Cardinal Tetra is a standout selection for both community and species-specific tanks. These fish flourish when in groups of eight or more, showcasing mesmerizing shoaling behaviour and exuding increased confidence and vibrancy in the presence of their peers. In solitude, however, they may become timid and their colours less pronounced.
Compatibility:
The Cardinal Tetra is compatible with a variety of tankmates, including fellow Tetras, Hatchetfish, Pencilfish, Corydoras Catfish, and smaller, non-aggressive Cichlids. It's advisable to steer clear of larger or predatory fish to maintain a harmonious tank environment. These tetras thrive in aquariums that closely resemble their native habitats, featuring soft, sandy substrates, lush plant life, driftwood, and even dried leaf litter to recreate the feel of their South American origins.
Diet:
In terms of diet, Cardinal Tetras are not fussy eaters and can be nourished with a diverse array of aquarium foods. A mix of high-quality dry foods such as flakes and pellets, supplemented with live and frozen treats like brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, and Tubifex worms, will keep them healthy and vibrant. Incorporating green vegetables into their diet can further boost their well-being and intensify their vivid hues.
Origin and Environment:
Originating from the tranquil waters of South America's upper Orinoco and Rio Negro River Basins, spanning Colombia, Venezuela, and Brazil, Cardinal Tetras are accustomed to environments rich in vegetation, fallen branches, tree roots, and leaf litter. They are particularly fond of dimly lit areas with ample shade, which provide them with a sense of security and comfort.
This fish is not only a visual delight but also a testament to the beauty and diversity of aquatic life, making it a prized addition to any aquarium.
Has this tank got a separate power plug for the lighting?
Yes it has. You will require three power plugs for this aquarium.
One for the light unit, one for the heater and one for the filter pump.
Can it be mounted on suction cups and are there cut outs on the filter case to install these by?
No, the M Bioflow does not have any suction cups to hold the filter to the aquarium. There are no holes on the filter designed to hold such suction clips.
