The Colombian Red Fin Tetra (Hyphessobrycon columbianus), native to South America, is a striking and dynamic addition to any community aquarium.
Hardy, adaptable, and active, these Tetras are best kept in groups of six or more individuals to observe their natural schooling behaviour and enjoy their dazzling displays.
Compatibility
Colombian Red Fin Tetras are best kept with peaceful and similar-sized species such as Characids, Dwarf Cichlids, Hatchet Fish, Pencilfish, Loricariids, and Corydoras Catfish. To prevent fin nipping, it is also important to keep them away from boisterous or long-finned species. To create a natural environment for the Columbian Redfin Tetras, a well-furnished aquarium with driftwood, bogwood, and aquatic plants is recommended. Dried leaves such as oak or Indian almond can also be added to enhance the natural feel and provide a source of secondary nutrition for beneficial microbes. Clean water is essential for these Tetras, and regular weekly water changes and proper filtration are necessary to maintain a healthy environment. These fish are intolerant to organic pollutants and should not be introduced to a biologically immature aquarium.
Diet
To maintain the vibrant colours and overall health of the Colombian Red Fin Tetra in the home aquarium, a balanced and varied diet is necessary. Offering small but frequent feedings of high-quality dried granules and flakes that include algae or plant content, along with frozen and live foods such as daphnia, bloodworm, and brine shrimp, will provide the best results. By incorporating such foods into their diet, you can ensure that your Colombian Red Fin Tetras are receiving all the essential nutrients they need for optimal growth and development.
Origin and Environment
The Colombian Red Fin Tetra originates from the Rio Acandi in Choco Department, Northern Colombia, close to the border with Panama. In their natural habitat, these remarkable creatures inhabit small, slow-flowing creeks, streams, tributaries, and waterways that are heavily vegetated and have submerged tree roots. These serene waters provide an ideal environment for these fish to forage for food and explore their surroundings.
Has this tank got a separate power plug for the lighting?
Yes it has. You will require three power plugs for this aquarium.
One for the light unit, one for the heater and one for the filter pump.
Can it be mounted on suction cups and are there cut outs on the filter case to install these by?
No, the M Bioflow does not have any suction cups to hold the filter to the aquarium. There are no holes on the filter designed to hold such suction clips.
