The Flame Honey Tetra (Paracheirodon innesi) is a favourite among aquarium enthusiasts, captivating both beginners and experienced aquarists with its vibrant colours. Sporting iridescent blue and red stripes that sparkle under proper lighting, it's no wonder this species is so popular.
Beyond their stunning visuals, Flame Honey Tetras are hardy and affordable, making them an excellent choice for newcomers to the hobby. These fish are inherently social and flourish best when kept in groups of at least six. However, larger groups of eight to twelve allow for a fuller display of their natural behaviour. Observing these active creatures in a large shoal is a sight to behold. Conversely, keeping Neon Tetras in isolation can lead to stress and increased susceptibility to illnesses.
Compatibility
When selecting tank mates for Flame Honey Tetras, opt for non-aggressive species of similar size. They can coexist harmoniously with other Tetra varieties or a variety of fish, provided there are no larger or aggressive inhabitants. In a community aquarium, Neon Tetras prefer the middle to lower regions, engaging in active exploration. Mimic their natural Amazonian habitat by incorporating dense vegetation, driftwood, and dried leaf litter for shelter and authenticity. Use subdued lighting to emulate dappled sunlight, and include floating plants for added cover and aesthetics.
Diet
Ensuring a varied diet is essential for the well-being of Neon Tetras, who, fortunately, are not picky eaters. Offer high-quality flakes and granules as their primary diet, supplemented with live and frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia to prevent malnutrition. Micropellet food can also be beneficial as a dietary supplement. Choose tropical sinking pellets containing natural colour enhancers to accentuate the vibrant hues of Neon Tetras.
Origin and Environment
Flame Honey Tetras originate from the tropical regions of Northern South America, specifically Western Brazil, Southeastern Colombia, and Eastern Peru. They inhabit the tributaries of the Amazon Rivers Tiger, Yarapa, and Napo, where they can be found in both blackwater and clearwater streams. These fish prefer soft acidic water with dense vegetation and roots, thriving in tranquil environments with lush vegetation and calm, clear waters.
Can it be mounted on suction cups and are there cut outs on the filter case to install these by?
No, the M Bioflow does not have any suction cups to hold the filter to the aquarium. There are no holes on the filter designed to hold such suction clips.
