The Rummy Nose Tetra (Hemigrammus rhodostomus), native to South America, is a captivating freshwater fish species revered for its distinctive colouration, hardiness, and lively disposition.
Their serene behaviour makes them a cherished choice among beginner and advanced aquarium enthusiasts. It's recommended to maintain Rummy Nose Tetras in groups of eight or more, as their group behaviour is more pronounced and visually captivating in larger numbers.
Compatibility
Rummy Nose Tetras can be housed with various fish species that share their peaceful temperament and water requirements. Tetras, peaceful Barbs, Danios, Catfish, and smaller Cichlids are often considered compatible tank mates. Rummy Nose Tetras thrive in an environment that mirrors its natural habitat. An aquarium with ample vegetation, subdued lighting, and a dark substrate provides an optimal setting. The addition of plants, driftwood, and leaf litter not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also offers secure hiding spots for the fish.
Diet
Incorporate flakes or pellets as the foundational element of the Rummy Nose Tetras' diet to ensure they receive the essential nutrients for optimal health. You should further enrich their diet with special treats once or twice weekly, utilising both frozen and live food options for a protein boost; bloodworms and daphnia are excellent choices. Additionally, consider adding finely chopped green vegetables to their diet for variety. This balanced approach caters to their nutritional needs and dietary preferences, promoting overall well-being and vitality.
Origin and Environment
The Rummy Nose Tetra hails from the Rio Orinoco and the lower Amazon Basin in Venezuela and Brazil, South America. These fish flourish in soft, acidic waters abundant in humic acid from decaying leaf litter, which covers a riverbed substrate of soft sand. Their habitats are richly adorned with rocks, caves, and densely planted areas that offer substantial shade and plentiful food sources, fostering their growth and development in the wild.
Can it be mounted on suction cups and are there cut outs on the filter case to install these by?
No, the M Bioflow does not have any suction cups to hold the filter to the aquarium. There are no holes on the filter designed to hold such suction clips.
