White Cloud Mountain Minnows (Tanichthys albonubes) are small, energetic fish known for their striking colours, bringing vibrant life to any aquarium.
These minnows are celebrated for their peaceful nature, resilience, and ease of care, making them an ideal pick for beginners in the aquarium hobby. Their small size and compatibility with other fish add to their appeal. With their vivid hues and lively presence, it's easy to see why they're a top choice for adding a splash of colour and movement to a tank.
Compatibility
White Cloud Mountain Minnows are perfect for small, temperate aquariums and should be kept in groups of six or more due to their shoaling nature. They're ideal for cooler water tanks and get along with peaceful fish like Variatus Platies and Rosy Barbs. These Minnows are a better fit for small "coldwater starter aquariums" in heated homes than goldfish, as they don't outgrow these tanks. The aquarium should have plenty of plants around the sides and back but leave open space in the middle for swimming. A moderate water flow is best. While they can handle temperatures below 10°C for short periods, it's not ideal for their health.
Diet
White Cloud Mountain Minnows are naturally omnivorous and readily accept a variety of foods. A balanced diet is key for their best health and to bring out their bright colours. This should include high-quality flake or pellet food, along with small live or frozen foods like Daphnia, Artemia, and bloodworms. It's also beneficial to include plant-based foods in their diet, reflecting their natural feeding habits. In the wild, they often feed on plant material. Offering algae or similar plant-based foods in the aquarium helps replicate their natural diet, supporting their overall health and well-being.
Origin and Environment
White Cloud Mountain Minnows, originally found north of Central Guangzhou and Guangdong Province in China, are now extinct in the wild due to water pollution. However, they can still thrive in home aquariums with proper care. In their natural habitat, these minnows favour slow-moving, clear, and shallow waters with dense vegetation and rocky substrates for food, shelter, and hiding. Keeping Mountain Minnows in your aquarium not only displays their beauty but also helps conserve this species. It's a great way to bring a part of China's aquatic world into your home.
As a species that is both visually appealing and easy to care for, White Cloud Mountain Minnows are a favoured choice for those seeking to enhance their aquarium with both beauty and vitality.
Can it be mounted on suction cups and are there cut outs on the filter case to install these by?
No, the M Bioflow does not have any suction cups to hold the filter to the aquarium. There are no holes on the filter designed to hold such suction clips.
